André Derain was a French painter, sculptor and co-founder of Fauvism with Henry Matisse.
André Derain was born in 1880 in Chatou, Ile-de-France just outside of Paris. In 1898, he studied to be an engineer at the Academie Camillo, he also attended painting classes under Eugene Carriere, and there he met Matisse.
